Here in Switzerland we don't PAYE or pay as we earn, instead we have to save up the cash and pay tax in installments 4 times a year on account, then fill in a tax return and wait for the final assessment. my final assessment for 2006 has just arrived. They disallowed several things I claimed for ![]()
so now they want even more money!
I am not a happy bunny at the moment, although i will be calling them tomorrow in the hope that the Tax man might have a heart.

no it isn't. A lot of people have problems retaining enough cash to pay the tax bills when they come. At least with PAYE it is already gone.

I would have great difficulty saving money to pay quarterly taxes. Having said that, hubby has no problem saving money and he could easily pay his taxes.

What a bummer....i would vote for the single tax idea..it is working elsewhere and is simple to do
what do you think

well, it would be easy. The same rate throughout Switzerland would be a start. Right now it depends on which Canton you live in, which is why all the millionaires live in Zug or Geneva canton. I picked the wrong canton.

and the rich would not have to hide there monety and could spend it where they live..i would like the system but the accountants would hate it!!

it would be pretty good I guess. At least we would know how much to put aside, and wouldn't have to fill in claim forms. I hate doing mine, put it off for months. And I am an Accountant

that sounds complicated - but is it a better system than paye, do you think?
probably not the right time to ask, i know ...
